PAC takes up Ayyan Ali’s currency smuggling case

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Tuesday took up the famous currency smuggling case of supermodel Ayyan Ali in a session chaired by opposition leader Syed Khursheed Shah.

During the meeting representatives of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) briefed the committee about current status of the case. The challan has been completed in the case however the supermodel yet remains to be indicted for currency smuggling charges, official told committee members.

The model should be charged as soon as possible because the due process of investigation has been completed in the case, they added.

In an answer they said the US $500,000 amount recovered from Ayyan Ali’s bag was submitted to public exchequer and that FBR has also received the due income tax from the supermodel. The amount cannot be used till the decision of the case.

When asked about the model’s history of currency smuggling the official said that they had no information whether she ever smuggled currency in past or not.
