Pak-Arab Housing scam accused remanded into NAB custody

LAHORE: An accountability court on Thursday handed over a person, allegedly involved in the Pakistan-Arab Housing Society scam, to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on a 14-day physical remand.

According to the details, NAB officials produced Pak-Arab Housing Society Deputy Administrator Maj (r) Ghulam Murtaza before Accountability Court Judge Syed Najamul Hassan and submitted that he was a co-accused in a case pertaining to defrauding people and carrying out Rs18 billion worth of corruption.

They said that Murtaza had fled abroad after the bureau launched an investigation into the scam. “However, he was arrested on his return,” they added. The officials also requested the court for physical remand of the accused.

At this, the court handed over Murtaza to NAB till December 20 on physical remand, with a direction to produce him again on expiry of the remand term.

It is pertinent to mention that NAB, in connection with the scam, has already arrested Ammar Gulzar, owner of the Pak-Arab Housing Society.

According to NAB, the society’s administration sold 5,200 kanals of land to citizens rather than 1,500 of the allocated land. They also allegedly sold out 8,500 files of plots without obtaining an NOC from the Lahore Development Authority (LDA). The administration has also been accused of selling out the same plot multiple times.
