ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister of Commerce Khurram Dastgir Khan has said that Pakistan and China are working on one of the largest economic engagement and development plans that is rightly termed game changer and fate changer for the region.
Speaking to a gathering at the International Production Capacity Cooperation Forum of the 4th China-South Asia Expo in Kunming, China, he emphasised that all participant countries had much to learn from each other, especially China that had been setting milestones in growth of production capacity for the past four decades.
“In today’s globalised world, it is imperative to work collectively and seek solutions for problems like regional development disparities,” said Khan. The minister urged Chinese investors to enter into joint ventures in Pakistan to create a win-win platform for both Pakistani and Chinese businessmen.
“It is high time that businesses from both sides start focusing on how to benefit from the strong foundations laid by the two governments to further develop business-to-business ties,” he said, adding the Pakistani government would provide special facilitation for the Chinese investors.
Dastgir not only highlighted the importance of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as the strongest pillar of economic, commercial and cultural connectivity, but also said the regional impact of CPEC was equally important.
“We are confident that the CPEC, through its network of roads, railways and industrial parks, will herald a new era of regional connectivity, development and prosperity. This in turn will benefit billions of people in the region,” Khan said. “It is aimed at bringing together China’s financial and industrial capacity and technological prowess with Pakistan’s plentiful resources, hard-working labour force and potential market.”
With the smooth implementation of CPEC, it would set new standards for the world to follow in terms of bilateral and regional economic cooperation, said the minister.
Minister of Science and Technology Rana Tanveer along with a business delegation from Pakistan also participated in the event.
