Pakistani exports up by 6.39pc during May 2016

LAHORE: The country’s merchandise exports in May increased by 6.39 percent as compared to that of April 2016.

The exports increased from $1.722 billion in April, 2016 to $1.832 billion in May this year, according to a data revealed by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Similarly, the merchandise imports also increased from $3.842 billion in April to $4.008 billion in May this year thus showing an increase of 4.21 percent.

On year-on-year basis the exports declined by 6 percent from $1.949 billion in May, 2015 to $1.832 billion in May this year whereas the imports increased by 7.63 percent from $3.724 billion in May, 2015 to $4.008 billion in May this year.

During first 11 months of current fiscal year (2015-16), the trade deficit increased by 8 percent to $21.166 billion as compared to the deficit of $19.86 billion in July-May (2014-15).

The exports during the period under review decreased by 12.37 percent from $21.859 billion in July-May, 2014-15 $19.155 billion in first 11 months of current fiscal year.

Similarly the imports also witnessed decline of 2.74 percent as it went down from $41.458 billion last year to $40.321 billion this year.
