SIALKOT – German Ambassador in Pakistan Dr Cyrill Nunn said that his country, the fourth largest trading partner of Pakistan, is trying to remove hurdles from the way of increasing bilateral trade ties, adding that Pakistan’s exports to the European Union increased by 20pc since the GSP Plus status was granted to the country.

“This will strengthen economic stability in the long run,” he said while addressing a meeting of local exporters held at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He said that Germany is ready to become a gateway to promote Pakistani exports to the European Union (EU).

He said that easy access of Sialkot exporters to EU markets will be ensured and visas will be given to the business community. He added that German investors would visit the Mega City Conference in Karachi in April this year.

Fazal Jillani, the SCCI President, said that German market has a huge demand for the items produced in Sialkot. He said, “To improve trade relations it is essential that visa facility for our business and export houses is made easily available.” He added that Pakistan is facing a severe power crisis which seems difficult to overcome.

A report revealed that Germany is also one of the largest investors in Pakistan. Pak-German trade has grown beyond US$ 2.3 billion in which balance of payment is in favour of Pakistan. In collaboration with the Pakistan Embassy in Berlin, the Consulate organises awareness seminars in various cities of Germany to attract investments in Pakistan.
