Pak, Iran to establish 5 border markets, rail link between Gwadar, Chahbahar

QUETTA: Pakistan and Iran have discussed trade and border issues and have agreed to establish five border markets.

Five markets, including Gabd Gwadar, Taftan, Panjgur, Washuk and Mand, would be established at Pak-Iran border, said deputy governor of Sistan-Balochistan, while addressing the joint press conference after meeting of the Pak-Iran Joint Border Commission.

Balochistan Chief Secretary Saifullah Chattha and Deputy Governor of Iranian province of Sistan-Balochistan, Ali Asghar Mir Shekari, signed five memorandums of understanding (MoUs) in connection with the border activities. Balochistan Home Secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani, Inspector General Police Ahsan Mehboob and other officials of the two countries were present on the occasion.

The Balochistan chief secretary said the proposal of rail link between Pakistani port city of Gwadar and Iranian port city of Chahbahar was also discussed. The deputy governor of Sistan-Balochistan said the proposed rail link between Gwadar and Chahbahar would provide to Pakistan access up to Europe.
