ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Canada on Monday agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture and other key sectors as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held delegation-level talks with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand during her visit to Islamabad.

Dar led the Pakistani delegation, while Anand headed the Canadian side in talks focused on expanding economic cooperation and strengthening the long-standing relationship between the two countries.

Addressing a joint press conference after the meeting, Dar described Anand’s visit as a “significant milestone” in Pakistan-Canada relations, saying it would provide fresh momentum to bilateral cooperation.

He said Pakistan believed in active diplomacy and noted that both countries possessed considerable potential to further strengthen their ties.

Dar said Pakistan and Canada shared historic relations, adding that the vibrant Pakistani diaspora in Canada remained a valuable asset and an important pillar of the bilateral relationship.

The two sides emphasised the need to build stronger partnerships in agriculture, agri-food, manufacturing and other sectors, saying there were broad opportunities to expand cooperation.
