KARACHI: Pakistan has canceled the purchase of 45 liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes from Qatar and Italy that were scheduled until 2027, officials confirmed.

According to sources in the Petroleum Division, 24 LNG cargoes from Qatar, set for import in 2026, have been canceled.

From Italy, only one LNG cargo will arrive in January 2026 instead of the planned 12, while 10 out of 12 cargoes scheduled for 2027 have also been canceled.

Officials clarified that Pakistan has long-term LNG supply contracts with both Qatari and Italian companies.

The cancellations are part of adjustments within these long-term agreements, and the process with the international companies has already been completed.

Italy’s company has a 15-year supply contract with Pakistan LNG Limited, while Qatar’s LNG supply contract is linked with the Pakistan State Oil (PSO).

Under these agreements, Pakistan normally imports 10 LNG cargoes each month.

This step reflects the government’s effort to manage imports carefully while ensuring energy needs are met under existing long-term contracts.
