BEIJING: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, held separate high-level meetings in Beijing today with Dr. Pan Gongsheng, Governor of the People’s Bank of China (PBoC), and Mr. Liao Lin, Chairman of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC).
In his meeting with the Governor of the PBoC, the Finance Minister expressed gratitude for China’s longstanding political, diplomatic, and economic support to Pakistan. He briefed on Pakistan’s recent economic performance, reform program, and the positive impact of improved global credit ratings. The Minister stressed the need to further enhance financial cooperation between the two countries and explore new areas of mutual interest.
During his meeting with the ICBC Chairman, the Finance Minister thanked the bank for its continued financial assistance to Pakistan, including support for development projects and loan refinancing. He said that ICBC’s strong presence in Pakistan reflects the depth of bilateral economic ties. The two sides also discussed new initiatives in investment, trade financing, and financial diversification.
The Finance Minister stated that Pakistan’s reform program is designed to bring sustainable stability, resilience, and growth to the economy. He emphasized that partnerships with Chinese financial institutions are not only critical for immediate needs but also form part of a long-term strategy that includes financial innovation, diversification, and regional integration.
Both sides agreed that Pakistan–China financial and economic cooperation is entering a new phase, with greater opportunities in banking, investment, and capital markets. The Finance Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to creating a better environment for investors, strengthening financial structures, and advancing cooperation through reforms.
Senator Aurangzeb reiterated Pakistan’s determination to further consolidate its forward-looking partnership with China, noting that financial collaboration will serve as a cornerstone of broader economic relations. He expressed confidence that the meetings would provide a clearer roadmap for bilateral cooperation, fostering stability, development, and shared prosperity in the region.
