LONDON: The government of Pakistan is committed to pursuing the agenda of development and reforms, specifically focusing on the plans for elimination of energy crisis and poverty, claimed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
He was meeting with a World Bank delegation on the sideline of the London Conference. Mr Nawaz said the Pakistani government was trying to turn the challenges into opportunities through sound economic planning, good governance and consistency in policy implementation.
WB Managing Director Sri Mulyani Indrawati who led the delegation delivered a letter to the prime minister from World Bank President Jim Kim offering its assistance for polio and other immunizations in the country. The bank also offered support for the internally displaced persons and flood affected people in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Sharif also praised the role of World Bank in financing Tarbela IV and said that preparatory work on Tarbela V has also started. He expected the World Bank to also support this extremely important project that would provide cheap electricity to the people.
The PM observed that CASA 1000 was important in the context of regional connectivity and the government was committed to its early implementation. The progress so far achieved is satisfactory but there is room for fast tracking the project, he maintained. The Prime Minister also lauded the World Bank’s assistance in the construction of Dasu Hydropower project.
