MULTAN: Government should take action against bogus seed makers of cotton in the city for the sustainable growth of cotton said by Chairman Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) Hafeez Anwar here on Saturday.
Chairman PCGA Hafeez Anwar was addressing the media along with his other members that government should launch a crackdown against the manufacturers of fake seed makers of cotton to protect the growth of cotton in the cotton belt. He said that the fake seed making is curse in our society which has badly destructed the production of cotton in the country.
The seed makers are rubbing sulphuric acid on the seed of cotton after chemical processing on it. They furnished the seed of cotton as a BT cotton seed for the sale and these forged seed of cotton are affecting the development of cotton sector, he disclosed.
Pakistani produces one of the best quality cotton in the world, which has its own uniqueness in cotton generating countries, but due to forged seed of cotton the growth of inside country is shaking the excellence of cotton which directly affects our economy and hurts cotton growers financially he told.
He demanded that government must ensure the quality of cotton seed by keeping a close eye on those seed manufacturers, which are working without any agricultural scientist and banned substandard seed for the advancement of cotton industry.
He told that after the amendments in seed control act government was authorized to take stern action against the forged seed makers exist in the country and government should promote quality seed through their check and balance by recommending the quality seed for cotton growers to achieve bumper cotton growing.
