Pakistan exports first regular batch of SUVs to African destinations

KARACHI: Pakistan has finally made formal entry into the exports of locally made Sport Utility Vehciles (SUVs) as a joint venture of China and Pakistan has recently dispatched 14 vehicles to Kenya. 

Master Changan Motors Ltd (MCML) has become the first company to export Made-in-Pakistan 14 Oshan X7 SUVs to Kenya for onward sale to Kenyan and Tanzanian markets.

The company had exported the first sample unit to a country in the Oceania region last year.

Speaking at a ceremony at MCML’s Port Qasim plant on Thursday, CEO Danial Malik said African countries Kenya and Tanzania were one of the several countries where MCML had plans to expand export volumes.

He said Changan Automobile China had plans to invest $10 billion in the overseas market, with a product focus on intelligent low-carbon core technology.

“The company’s focus is to enhance its global footprint to Europe, America, Middle-East and Africa, Asia Pacific and CIS, entering 90pc of the global markets by 2030,” Malik maintained.
