LAHORE: Pakistan has started import of raw cotton from neighboring country India due to bad crop in Pakistan and its import has reached up to 160 trucks per week.

Sources told Customs Today that Pakistan is importing cotton from India and it is increasing day by day. Officials from Land Freight Unit (LFU) Wagah informed Customs Today that import of Indian cotton has increased since the last one month. Now it has reached up to 160 trucks per week because during the last week total import of raw cotton from India was recorded at 160 trucks that crossed the border line through Wagah trade gate.

Meanwhile, total trade volume between two neighboring countries Pakistan and India has slowed down due to decrease in import and export of vegetables and fruits through Wagah trade rout. Export of onion from Pakistan to India has also decreased because supply of Indian onion has increased in Indian markets.

On other hand, exporters are not satisfied with low crop in Pakistan because 57 percent of Pakistani exports are related to cotton only. The cotton output has been estimated to remain under 10 million bales as around 40 percent crop has been damaged in Punjab only.
