KARACHI: Pakistan Navy ships PNS Hunain and PNS Yarmook have seized more than 2,800 kilograms of narcotics during a joint counter-narcotics operation in the Arabian Sea, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The seized narcotics are estimated to be worth approximately $750 million, marking a major operation against drug smuggling and maritime crime.
According to ISPR, the Pakistan Navy ships were conducting a routine patrol in the Arabian Sea when they intercepted a suspicious boat.
A boarding operation was subsequently carried out, leading to the recovery of more than 2,800kg of narcotics concealed in hidden compartments of the vessel.
The operation highlights Pakistan Navy’s continued efforts to safeguard maritime security and prevent illegal activities in the country’s maritime domain.
Naval chief commends personnel
Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf commended the professional performance of the officers and personnel involved in the successful operation.
Admiral Naveed Ashraf reiterated the Pakistan Navy’s commitment to ensuring maritime security and combating drug smuggling in the region.
President Zardari pays tribute to Navy
President Asif Zardari paid tribute to Pakistan Navy personnel for the successful anti-narcotics operation and commended the professional competence of the crews of PNS Hunain and PNS Yarmook.
He said the Pakistan Navy is playing a valuable role in safeguarding the country’s maritime boundaries and sea lanes.
President Zardari also reaffirmed that Pakistan remains committed to promoting peace and security and curbing illegal activities.
PM Shehbaz praises anti-smuggling efforts
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also congratulated Pakistan Navy officers and personnel on the successful operation. He described the Pakistan Navy’s operations against drug smuggling as commendable and said the force plays a vital role in preventing maritime smuggling.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also praised the Pakistan Navy for the successful anti-narcotics operation.
“I pay tribute to the entire team that participated in the operation,” Naqvi said, describing the Navy’s operations against narcotics smuggling as commendable.
