KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has released fresh data revealing how much profit multinational companies (MNCs) sent out of the country in October 2025, showing a sharp month-on-month rise.

According to the SBP report, Pakistan paid $385.6 million to multinational firms in profit repatriation during October. Despite this heavy outflow, the annual profit repatriation of MNCs in foreign currency slipped by 6.8 percent compared to last year.

However, when seen month-to-month, profit outflows shot up by 142.6 percent, indicating that several companies finally “cleared the backlog” after months of delays. Officials said the figure “jumped overnight” because firms were waiting for improved foreign exchange availability.

During the first four months of FY2026, foreign companies repatriated $1.137 billion in profits. In comparison, MNCs had sent out $818.4 million during the same period of FY2025 — showing a clear pick-up as the government tries to “get the ball rolling” on easing forex restrictions.

The report also highlighted that foreign companies in the power sector saw a major rise in their annual profit outflows, sending $155.6 million abroad — a sharp 103 percent increase.

Economists say the surge reflects improved currency liquidity, which allowed businesses to “cash out” long-pending dividends.
