LAHORE: Pakistan has stopped the import of tomatoes from India through Wagah border because it t is not up to the standards.
According to sources of Customs Today Pakistan has suspended this trade because India tomatoes are unhygienic. Indian tomatoes contain poisonous ingredients which is basic reason behind this step. According to Wagah Customs official trade of tomatoes is banned as ministry of food is not satisfy with the quality of the product.
Import of tomatoes from India has banned under the ‘Pakistan Corentine Rules’ of 1967. According to the rules No person can import from any country any harmful, living insects, animals, birds, fungi, fungal cultures, obnoxious weed plants or their propagating material except in accordance with the following provisions, namely: Any living stage of the numerous small invertebrate animals elongated invertebrates lacking appendages, commonly referred to as worms, for example, nematodes, any form of protozoa; any form of fungi such as rusts, smuts and moulds, any form of bacteria; any form of viruses, or any form of similar or allied organisms which may directly or indirectly affect, injure or cause disease in plants, unless
Pakistan customs has stopped the import of tomatoes as it is not suitable for the human health.
On the other hand rates of tomatoes in local market has increased due to this ban on import and the tomatoes that were available in market at the rate of Rs 60 per KG are now has reached at the rate of Rs 80 to 100 per kilo gram.
