KARACHI: Pakistan is set to receive a major shipment of phosphate-based fertilizers from Morocco as part of efforts to ensure adequate supplies for the upcoming Kharif cropping season.

According to market information shared by JS Global Capital, Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC) has dispatched a vessel from Morocco carrying 50,000 tons of fertilizer, which is expected to arrive in Pakistan on July 10, 2026.

The shipment includes a mix of key phosphatic fertilizers essential for agricultural production:

10,000 tons of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) for FFC

10,000 tons of Triple Superphosphate (TSP)

20,000 tons of Nitrophosphate Sulphur (NPS)

5,000 tons of DAP for Engro Fertilizers

5,000 tons of DAP for Fatima Fertilizer

Pakistan remains heavily dependent on imported phosphatic fertilizers, particularly DAP, due to limited domestic production capacity. As one of the world’s leading exporters of phosphate-based fertilizers, Morocco has become a key supplier to Pakistan’s agriculture sector in recent years.

Industry experts believe the timely arrival of the cargo will help improve fertilizer availability ahead of peak seasonal demand from farmers preparing for Kharif crop cultivation. Adequate fertilizer supplies are considered crucial for maintaining agricultural productivity and supporting food security.

The shipment is also expected to ease supply pressures in the local market and help stabilize fertilizer availability during one of the most important sowing periods of the year.

With agriculture continuing to play a central role in Pakistan’s economy, industry stakeholders view the import of essential nutrients such as DAP, TSP, and NPS as vital for sustaining crop yields and supporting the country’s farming community.
