ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s government has announced the elimination of customs duties on more than 100 categories of raw materials used in the local production of medicines for cancer and other diseases.
Presenting the federal budget, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said the measure was being introduced under the National Tariff Policy 2025-30 to support domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing and improve access to essential medicines.
The minister said customs duties on over 100 types of raw materials used in the production of cancer and other disease treatments would be abolished entirely.
Aurangzeb stressed that serious illnesses such as cancer impose significant financial and emotional burdens on patients and their families, making practical relief measures essential.
The government said the move is aimed at reducing production costs, encouraging local manufacturing, and improving the availability of life-saving medicines across the country.
