Pakistan, UAE agree to boost cooperation on cashless economy

KARACHI: Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have agreed to intensify cooperation in promoting a cashless economy and accelerating digital transformation, as both sides pledged to share knowledge, expertise, and technical assistance in this area.

The announcement was made after a bilateral consultative meeting between the two countries on advancing the cashless economy.

Pakistan was represented by Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, while the UAE delegation was led by Minister of State Mohammed bin Hadi Al Husseini.

UAE shares experience in digital payments

During the meeting, UAE officials gave a detailed briefing on the country’s digital payments and receipts system. They highlighted the UAE’s successful experiences in the digital economy, showcasing how their system has enhanced efficiency and financial inclusion.

Pakistani officials appreciated the briefing and noted that such insights would be valuable as Pakistan works to advance its own digital economy.

Pakistan highlights Shehbaz Sharif’s vision

The Pakistani delegation emphasized Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision of building a cashless economy. They highlighted his initiatives aimed at promoting digital financial systems and modern governance practices.

Both sides agreed that technical teams would continue cooperation on various aspects of digital payments, governance, and financial innovation.

Review of digital governance progress

The meeting also reviewed the progress achieved so far in modern governance between Pakistan and the UAE. Officials agreed that continued collaboration would help strengthen institutional frameworks and accelerate the transition toward cashless economies in both countries.

Appreciation and Future Cooperation

Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani expressed his gratitude to the UAE government for sharing its expertise and experiences in digital transformation. He stressed that Pakistan values this partnership and looks forward to expanding cooperation in the fields of finance, governance, and technology.
