KARACHI: Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh has outlined his vision to take maximum advantage of Pakistan’s coastline by streamlining operations through its ports and terminals and to transform them into hub of robust business activities.
Speaking at a Conference of Logistics, Maritime Affairs and Blue Economy (COLMAB 24) organized by the Signature Event here in a local hotel, Qaiser Shaikh also announced new national initiatives to integrate advanced technologies, including autonomous shipping and state-of-the-art navigation systems, to enhance maritime safety and operational efficiency.
Chairman Businessmen Group Muhammad Zubair Motiwala, Vice Chairman BMG Anjum Nisar, President KCCI Iftikhar Ahmed Shiekh, Senior Vice President Altaf A Ghaffar, Vice President Tanveer Barry, Former Vice President KCCI Nasir Mehmood, Former Presidents KCCI Majyd Aziz, Abdullah Zaki, Iftikhar Ahmed Vohra, Shamim Ahmed Firpo, Muhammad Idrees and Tariq Yousuf along with Khurram Aziz Khan (CEO KGTL), CS Kim (CEO SAPT), Mr. Ray (Head of Operations KICT), Zaffarullah Jan (KICT), Director Customs Sanaullah Abro, Maqsood Ismail, Rasheed Jan Muhammad, Babar Bidaat, Commodore (R) ObaidUllah, Navaid Qureshi (Hutchison Port), Farooq Zahid (Chairman Sub Committee on Maritime Affairs), Tanveer Ahmed (Ex-Member FBR & Senior Advisor UN-GCNP-MACN) and others were also present at the conference which focused on advancing global maritime practices, sustainability, and technological innovation.
Commenting on Environmental Sustainability, the Maritime Minister introduced stringent new regulations to address emissions and waste management, aligning with global environmental standards to mitigate climate change impacts. “There is a dire need to enhance international partnerships and I call for collective actions to address shared maritime challenges and promote best practices”, he added.
He said that significant investment for modernizing maritime infrastructure was being made which aims to boost economic growth and improve global supply chain efficiency whereas new educational and training programs were also being introduced to equip the maritime workforce with essential skills for the evolving industry landscape.
While highly praising the Signature Event for hosting COLMAB 24, Maritime Minister said, “The remarkable organization of this conference is a testament to the expertise and dedication of The Signature Event. Their exceptional work has not only ensured a seamless event but has also contributed significantly to the impactful discussions and outcomes we have witnessed. During his address, Chief Executive TDAP and Chairman BMG reiterated TDAP’s commitment to promoting Pakistan’s maritime sector and fully facilitating trade. He also appreciated the efforts made by Nasir Mehmood and The Signature Event for holding COLMAB 24 in an excellent manner. Key takeaways included proposals for infrastructure development, regulatory reforms, and collaborative initiatives. The conference marked a significant step towards shaping the future of Pakistan’s maritime affairs and enhancing its role in global trade.
