ISLAMABAD: The Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and Pacific (FEIAP) has recognised Pakistan as first economy in its recently meeting held at Penang in Malaysia.

The FEIAP accreditation system has been supported by the United Nation Education Scientific Cultural Organization (Unesco), which aims to give equal status of Engineering Qualification among the member countries.

A high-level meeting held Thursday, Unesco Asia, Africa and Pacific regions’ Director Dr Shahbaz Khan termed that recognition of Pakistan’s Engineering Qualification by FEIAP at international level as a great success.

He said the recognition of Pakistan’s engineering qualifications by FEIAP Accreditation System would enable Pakistan to be considered by Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC Engineer) towards registration of Pakistani engineering graduates, which would enhance mobility of engineers for the purpose of employment in other FEIAP economies.

Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan Engineering Council Chairman Javed Qureshi said that the achievement would be helpful for Pakistani Engineers to get more and better job opportunities in engineering field. He said Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) would issue supervising license to the engineers for supervision of the engineering projects of construction companies.

PEC formally applied under the FEIAP guidelines to its general assembly in March 2015 and the Review visit was conducted in September this year by a review team comprising FEIAP ex-president Prof Dr Hean Teik Chuah and Vice President, the Institute of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) Ir Lee Boon Chong to evaluate engineering education accreditation system of PEC in comparison with FEIAP criteria.
