MULTAN: Renowned Industrialist, president of Dera Ghazi Khan Chamber of Commerce & Industry , ex-president, MCCI, ex-chairman of MDPT and former caretaker Minister for Industries Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi has said that Pakistan’s exports of textile commodities witnessed an increase of 2.92 percent during the first quarter of the current fiscal year as compared to the corresponding period of last year.
Talking to media persons, Jalaluddin Roomi said that the textile exports of our country were recorded at $4500 million ($ 4.5 billion) in July-October (2020-21).
Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi said that it was a good augury that the demand of Pakistan textile products was increasing day by day in the international market which would be helpful in strengthening the country’s economy besides providing jobs to a maximum number of laborers.
He said the textile industry has been revived fully due to the export-friendly policies of the government. The idle capacity has become operational and the textile exports have started picking up over the last two months. The exports are also showing 14% increase during the last four months, he added. The country’s top export – textile sector on Wednesday sought the government’s priority towards the increase of a sizeable cultivation area of the cotton crop and its output growth to safeguard the local yarn market, Roomi said.
He stressed the need for taking serious steps to increase the cotton output to save precious foreign exchange, He offered on the behalf of the textile industry to contribute to the research work and evolving new disease-resistant varieties of cotton. Pakistan’s entire apparel textile sector relies widely on the local cotton production and manufacturing of yarn to meet its global orders, makers, and exporters he said. “Due to decline in cotton production, the production of value-added textile sector has suffered a lot owing to unavailability of yarn,” he added.
