Panama leaks: FBR serves notices on PM’s children

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) taking actions following the Panama leaks, a mega scandal, issued notices to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s children, Maryam Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz, son of Malik Riaz and other around 350 people.

Talking to Customs Today, FBR Strategic Planning, Reforms & Statistics Member Dr Muhammad Iqbal said that the notices ask if they own any offshore companies or not. If the individuals have offshore companies, the letter asks them to provide details.

All persons have also been directed to file their replies within 15 days, he said, adding that the notices were not being served under any kind of political pressure.

The member said that tax evaders will have to bear full weight of law without any discrimination. He further added that those who have not declared offshore companies in tax returns will be interrogated as per law. The FBR will investigate the cases deeply.

He also said that the FBR has not demanded property details from the persons who were served notices for their alleged involvement in tax evasion through offshore companies.
