PARC organises kitchen gardening exhibition

ISLAMABAD: With an aim to mobilise people to grow health food, the Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) has organised Kitchen Gardening Exhibition at Islamabad Club.

Agriculture scientists of National Agriculture Research Council (NARC) and kitchen gardening practitioners, had put on display various vegetables and fruits on the stalls set up in the exhibition to attract attention of people towards this easy but fruitful exercise.

Speaking on the occasion, Seerat Asghar Secretary Ministry of Food Security and Research said that the exhibition would help encourage people to adopt modern and innovative methods and grow organic, safe and healthy vegetables and fruits at their home. He also said that his ministry was educating people and creating awareness to motivate and encourage people to produce daily-used food commodities at small scale.

Secretary Planning Division M Azam said in his address that he appreciates great efforts of PARC scientists for promotion and establishment of kitchen gardening and it will be very use full for economy development and poverty alleviation.

PARC Chairman Dr Iftikhar Ahmad said that production of nutritious food was necessary for health of every citizen and by the kitchen gardening practice, people can have access to healthy food. He was of the view that people of cities can considerably reduce dependence on rural food provided they practice kitchen gardening. He said that if the trees inside the cities are replaced with the food producing trees, it would make the cities self-sufficient in food production.
