ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s largest oil refinery Parco is set to temporarily shut down for 40 days starting from October 10 for scheduled maintenance, with operations expected to resume on November 18.

The closure, confirmed by OGRA’s spokesperson, is part of routine maintenance work involving mechanical, civil, and other crucial areas of the refinery. The last shutdown for maintenance occurred in 2020.

Despite the closure, authorities have assured that there will be no shortage of petroleum products in the country.

The refinery has received prior permission from the Ministry of Energy and other relevant agencies. OGRA has also confirmed that contingency plans are in place, including the import of additional petrol to meet the country’s demand. Currently, 70% of the petrol consumed in Pakistan is already imported.

Refinery officials said that the oil supply chain will remain unaffected during the shutdown, particularly for diesel, which will be readily available throughout the maintenance period.
