ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Baitul Mal (PBM) Managing Director Aon Abbas Buppi on Monday announced that PBM, in collaboration with Utility Stores Corporation (USC), will launch an e-wallet system to cover USC employees’ wages in the wake of coronavirus outbreak in Pakistan.

Buppi, in a media talk, said that an online wallet system was being introduced to facilitate the families of virus affectees. “As a precautionary measure, the PBM will cover the wages of USC employees through the proposed online system,” he said.

PBM will start this program to help the families who were quarantined in different cities, he added.

“Following a formal nod by the cabinet, the e-wallet system will be launched on PBM’s website and the affected families will be able to seek relief.”

Buppi further said the government was exploring ways to provide help to common people and to financially support them during the crisis.

“The 15-day lockdown in Sindh might be easy for the rich, but for underprivileged strata, staying home means loss of income.”

“With the help of district administrations, PBM has formed a committee to collect data of citizens.” He added that the committee will collect complete data of the citizens in the district and hand it over to the PBM which, in return, help those deemed needy.

The initiative is PBM’s role in the government’s effort to provide relief to the masses during such a devastating time, he said.

PBM will regularly update the citizenry, he said, urging the populace to practice self-isolation as much as possible.
