PCA detects Rs323m duty, taxes evasion on import of telecommunication equipment

LAHORE: Directorate of Post Clearance Audit (PCA) has detected Rs323 million duty and taxes evasion by 13 telecommunication companies.

According to the documents available with Customs Today, it was said that during initially audit and scrutiny of import clearances data of various telecommunication companies, under PCT heading 8517-0000 falling in the jurisdiction of PCA (North) during January 2012 onward was conducted.

It was revealed that 13 companies has got cleared their imported servers for telecommunication use under PCT heading 8471,5000 as server for companies , paying customs duty at the rate of 0 percent, 1 percent and 2 percent instead of appropriate PCT heading 8517-6290 attracting customs duty at the rate of 20 percent.

The companies that according to Customs PCA, evaded the customs duty included CM Pak, Huawei Technologies Pakistan Limited, Pakistan Telecom Mobile, Wi-Tribe Pakistan Limited, Warid Telecom, Telenor Pakistan Pvt Limited, Pakistan Mobile Communication PVT Limited, Wateen Telecom PVT Limited, Wateen Solution PVT Limited, Wateen Solutions, CM Pak LDI Limited , Zong Xing and World Call Telecom. The imports were made under GDs number including 06, 14, 37, 6, 23,1,10,6,5,3, 16,1,2,5, 01, 15, 1, 1.

The Post Clearance Audit Lahore has served notice to the companies involved in tax and duty evasion urging them to pay the balance of the duty and taxes that they evaded by using servers for telecommunication use, sources said.
