MULTAN: The Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) demanded the government withdraw the SRO issued for the imposition of five percent tax on cotton seed cake.
Addressing a press conference, PCGA President Mukhtar Baloch along with its members Haji Muhammad Akram, Shehzad Ali Khan demanded the government to provide relief to cotton industry.
He regretted that cotton trade was confronted with crunch due lack of government attention while low cotton price was adding to the farmers woes.
They announced that the PCGA had started cotton brokers’ registration to overcome financial losses. He said that the government should announce support price for cotton, adding that the government should end the power loadshedding to mitigate their sufferings.
He said that government should protect the rights of cotton growers and ginners from the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA).
He demanded the government to withdraw the newly imposed taxes on cotton seed cake, saying that the tax had cast uncertainty over the already fragile cotton industry.
The PCGA president urged the government to withdraw the Statutory Regulatory Order (SRO) governing the 5 percent tax on the sale of cotton seed cake.
