LIMA: In September 2016, Peru’s total exports volume grew 20% over the same month in 2015, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported. Such increase was driven by higher shipments of traditional and non-traditional products, up by 25% and 7.4%, respectively. “With September’s results, total exports accumulated three months of continuous growth, reaching the fourth highest rate so far this year,” INEI head Anibal Sanchez said. Main export destinations were China (25.7%), the United States (16.5%), India (6.1%), Spain (4.1%) and Japan (3.8%).

Likewise, exports for January-September posted a 12.5% increase over the same period in 2015.This way, traditional exports climbed 18.1%, particularly in the mining (23.1%) and agricultural (18.3%) sectors. On the contrary, non-tradition shipments dropped 2.2% due to the lower demand in textile (-10.2%), fishing (-15.6%), metal-mechanic (-10.3%) and nonmetallic mining (-8.1%) sectors. However, iron-steel and metallurgy exports expanded 3.9%, whereas farming grew 6.2%.
