Peshawar ASO foils bid to smuggle fireworks near Hayatabad

PESHAWAR: The Customs staff posted at Hayatabad check-post foiled an attempt to smuggle fireworks from Khyber to Peshawar city.

Sources informed Customs Today that a vehicle bearing registration no: LX913 Honda Civic was intercepted for checking purposes which was arrived from Industrial Estate Hayatabad area adjacent to Khyber.

The Customs staff recovered 21100 boxes of fireworks and explosives worth millions of rupees. The accused Shakir Rehman belonged to district Khyber was arrested and FIR filed against him for smuggling fireworks and explosives in such large quantity. The Customs anti-smuggling squad is fully capable to handle any attempt of smuggling harmful goods from one area to other of the province.

The sources further said that the explosives worth millions along with the driver were moved to nearby police station Hayatabad.

The deputy collector appreciated the operation conducted by customs staff to the bid of smuggling made by the smugglers through the region.

The deputy collector also said to drive special plans for curbing the menace of smuggling which causes loss to revenue collection of customs department.
