Peshawar ASO impounds 325 vehicles worth Rs 490m in 5 months

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) and car cell, Peshawar, impounded 325 non-duty paid and offending vehicles worth Rs 490.7 million during the first five months (July-November) of the financial year 2016-17.

Officials said that performance of the Peshawar ASO was outstanding in confiscating smuggled goods and vehicles during the period. They said that the ASO and car cell conducted various raids and made cases against the smugglers, adding that the ASO impounded 214 vehicles worth Rs 328.95 million under Section 157 of the Customs Act, 1969. The vehicles were used for smuggling.

They further informed that the car cell also impounded non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs 161.75 million, adding that that both wings of the Peshawar Customs were showing outstanding performance against smuggling.

During October 2016, the ASO also busted various smuggling attempts and confiscated goods and vehicles worth Rs 238.921 while it also impounded many non-duty paid vehicles and other smuggled goods worth Rs 141.521 million during September 2016. The officials said that vigilance has been enhanced on roads in order to foil smuggling attempts, adding that information-sharing system was being strengthened to act against smugglers in the region.
