PESHAWAR: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) has decided to launch an operation against smuggled auto parts in Khyber Bazar and Shoba Market, Peshawar.
In this connection, a meeting of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), provincial government and FATA Secretariat was also held in Peshawar which was aimed at launching a joint strategy against auto parts smugglers. The officials has also decided to establish check posts on various points at Saddar, Shoba Bazar and Karkhano market in order to foil the smuggling attempts.
As a part of the ongoing enhanced operation against smuggling, the Peshawar ASO has made more than 80 separate cases, seized non-duty paid goods worth Rs 220 million. The smuggled goods seized include tea, cloth, etc., carrier vehicles, and non-duty paid cars and some of them were Afghan Transit Trade goods.
The anti-smuggling squad also seized more than 250 bags of smuggled black tea from a container and a dumper truck. The estimated worth of these seizures is more than Rs 20 million.
The Peshawar Customs in collaboration with the Customs Intelligence and Investigation has started a grand blockade and surveillance operation of main arteries of Peshawar in order to prevent the menace of smuggling of contraband goods and movement of anti social elements.
