Peshawar ASO registers 55 cases involving Rs 25m during Q1

ISLAMABAD: The Anti Smuggling Organisation (ASO), Peshawar made 55 cases of different types of smuggled goods worth Rs 25.2 million during first quarter (July-September) of financial year 2016-17.

According to the details, the Peshawar ASO showed better performance than same corresponding period of previous year 2015-16 when it registered 47 cases of miscellaneous goods worth Rs 24.2 million.

Comparatively, the ASO detected 8 more cases during first quarter of current fiscal year, showing increased vigilance by the officials in region. It also exceeded the value of last year by Rs 1 million.

Officials said that the department was doing work following the directions of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to eliminate the trends of smuggling within the jurisdiction of Peshawar Customs, adding that all possible measures were being taken to strengthen anti-smuggling activities.

Earlier, the ASO was facing shortage of staff, but now the matter of shortage of staff have been solve with fresh induction of staff of BPS-1 to BPS-5.
