Peshawar Customs’ AFU collects Rs 14.5m

ISLAMABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate, Peshawar’s Air Freight Unit (AFU) collected duty/taxes amounting to Rs 14.58 million from July 1 to August 24 of the financial year 2016-17.

Officials said that the performance of the AFU in revenue collection was satisfactory so far in new fiscal year, as it generated a handsome amount from July 2016 to August 24, 2016.

They also informed that the department collected Rs 179.592 million in shape of custom duty (CD), regulatory duty, sales tax, additional sales tax and income tax during the fiscal year 2015-16.

During first two month of fiscal year 2016-17, the custom staff collected Rs 4.712 million as customs duty, Rs 72,200 as regulatory duty, Rs 4.982 as sales tax, and Rs 4.982 as income tax, the officials explained adding that revenue collection could be increased by improving infrastructure for importers and exporters at Bacha khan International Airport.

Construction work at the airport is continue for last three years and it is a big hurdle for the business community to work freely, they said, adding that the government must take some measures to complete construction work as soon as possible so the business activities could be boosted.
