Peshawar customs facing acute shortage of staff due to transfer of four officers

ISLAMABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate, Peshawar, is facing acute shortage of supervisory staff (Deputy Collectors) of BS-17 and BS-18 due to transfer of four officers to other collectorates. The departments which are suffering include supervision, litigation, anti-smuggling enforcement and revenue realization work.

According to details, presently, the Peshawar Collectorate has eight deputy and assistant collectors out of whom two deputy collectors are on long leave which has worsened the situation at the collectorate.

The sources said the collectorate previously had 12 sanctioned deputy/assistant collectors out of whom four were transferred to other collectorates/directorates.

The sources further said the volume of work has also increased tremendously in view of the creation and operationalization of new customs stations and customs facilitation centers. As far as the customs operations at border stations are concerned, the volume of both imports and exports has increased manifold at the said stations. Therefore more staff is also required there.
