Peshawar Customs foils bid to smuggle foreign currency to Dubai

PESHAWAR: Customs Air Freight Unit (AF) team deputed at Bacha Khan International Airport thwarted attempt of foreign currency smuggling from Peshawar to Dubai.

Sources told Customs Today that the customs team recovered 51,500 UAE dirhams from the luggage of a passenger who was departing to Dubai from a private airline’s flight.

The passenger taken into custody by the customs team was a resident of Kohat. The customs officials initiated an investigation in this regards. However, identification of the arrested man has not yet disclosed.

The AFU Peshawar earlier arrested two accused persons for laundering money. On investigation it was revealed that this money was given by hundi/hawala money in order to avoid tax on money transfer through banks.

The AFU sources further said that new tools have been used for identification of any illegal money transfers.
