Peshawar Customs Intelligence seizes 3,264kg smuggled tea

PESHAWAR: Customs Intelligence, on special direction of its Director General Shaukat Ali, has intensified action against smuggling activities across the country.

The Customs Intelligence authorities in Peshawar have also foiled a bid to smuggle huge quantity of tea. On a tipoff, the Intelligence officials set up a picket on Jamrud Road and stopped a suspicious Bedford truck for checking.

The officials found huge quantity of smuggled tea of foreign origin in the truck. The driver of the vehicle couldn’t provide any documents regarding ownership of the smuggled item. The truck and loaded tea were confiscated and brought to the Customs Intelligence office in Peshawar.

The authorities seized 48 sacks of 3,264kg smuggled tea and vehicle worth Rs5.2 million under Customs Act 1969 and registered an FIA against the accused. Further investigation has been started.
