PESHAWAR: Custom Collectorate Peshawar on the eve of the International Customs Day has renewed its commitment to get acquaintance with digital customs technology and ensure its utilization at all customs stations of the country.
While addressing on the occasion, Additional Collectors Aftab Haider, Syed Fazal Samaad and Deputy Collector Adeem Khan said that hte World Customs Day is celebrated annually by Global Customs community on January 26 in honor of the inaugural session of Customs Cooperation Council which took place on January 26, 1953.
They said that the new era of Digital Customs has transformed the way that customs and digitalization would ensure the enhanced ability of customs administration to communicate and coordinate process of border management to promote transparency.
They said that Pakistan Customs has also made phenomenal progress in the use of technology in recent years. Its home grown automated customs clearance system web based one custom called WeBOC is an end to end digital solution, which have facilitated trade and promoted transparency in customs process.
The participants maintained that presence of an updated website of customs having all relevant information has facilitated all stake holders including customs officials. They said that Customs Peshawar is not far behind when it comes to the use of information and communication technologies.
They mentioned that more than 90 percent of trade handled by Customs is now processed digitally in a paperless environment through WeBOC or one custom system. Importantly WeBOC has been launched at Torkham border crossing that will have positive impact on trade through this important route.
Moreover one customs has been launched at the far flung border station of Kurram agency. Digital cameras have been installed at various customs station and offices for better monitoring and enforcement.
They informed that several other projects like the computerization of office record and an automated human resource management system will be completed during this year.
They added that under the slogan Digital Customs, progressive engagement Customs Peshawar will have the opportunity to show case and further promote its use of information and communication technologies.
