Countrywide crackdown on smuggled goods, Peshawar I&I recovers cloth worth Rs30m from Karkhano Market

PESHAWAR: In a series of countrywide crackdown on smuggled goods, Peshawar Customs Intelligence launched raids in different markets of the city to eradicate menace of smuggling.

After receiving credible information from Collector Customs Collectorate Saeed Jadoon, Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Dr. Arslan Subatageen constituted a raiding team under supervision of Additional Director Dr. Wajid Khan and comprising Deputy Collector Najib Arjumand, Deputy Collector Ubaid Khan, Superintendent Imtiaz Khan, Inspector Ziaul Haq and Inspector Aziz Khan to thwart smuggling attempt.

The customs team raided Karkhano market and recovered huge quantity of non-customs paid cloth and confiscated four loaded trucks of cloths. The cloth was brought to the market from Afghanistan via Torkham border and later was stored in Haroon Market Karkhano Hayatabad for onward supply.

The custom officials shifted all the cloth in four loaded trucks to Peshawar Customs House where the accused persons are being interrogated. The net value of seized cloth is Rs30 million

It is necessary to mention here that from July 2017, the Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation catalyzed the anti-smuggling activities of all field formations against smuggled goods. During last eleven months, the anti-smuggling squads has seized goods worth Rs1585.7 million as compared to Rs664.4 million in July 2017-May 2018 which shows an increase of Rs921.3 million.
