ISLAMABAD: The staff of Customs Collectorate deputed at Bacha Khan International Airport (BKIAP) Peshawar on information recovered 39 gold bars weighing 4.5 kilograms from a passenger who was coming from Dubai to Peshawar via Air Blue flight number PA- 611.
Assistant Collector Ashraf Ali told Customs Today that on credible information that a passenger coming from Dubai carrying a huge quantity of gold will enter Pakistan via Peshawar on Air Blue.
He said that the Customs staff enhanced checking measures and intercepted the gold smuggler during scanning of bags, adding that the smuggler was smartly trying to escape but airport staff chased him and arrested him from airport premises.
He told that the total value of seized gold in international market is Rs18 million. Sources said that the arrested smuggler was later identified as Yousaf Rehman, a resident of Peshawar. He smartly concealed the gold in a bag and shoes. The Additional Collector Fazle Samad also visited the airport after this seizure and appreciated the Customs staff of BKIAP for intercepting huge quantity of smuggled gold.
He said that passenger Yousaf has been arrested and further investigations are still underway. Assistant Collector Ashraf Ali said that this was second gold seizure during past 30 days at BKIAP.
