ISLAMABAD: The staff of the Customs Intelligence & Investigation Peshawar confiscated around 870 cell-phones and 5500 memory cards worth Rs25millions from the airport. A case has been registered and investigations are underway.
According to Deputy Director I&I Peshawar Khayal Muhammad Khan, Customs Intelligence and Investigation on got a tip-off about an expected smuggling. The Directorate of I&I Peshawar constituted a team under the supervision of deputy director.
The team started checking all the flights’ luggages coming from UAE on 24/7/2017 at the Bacha Khan International Airport Peshawar. When all the passengers were cleared, eight pieces of baggage, including cartons and plastic shoppers, were left unattended on the conveyer belt of the baggage.
The same baggage was taken to the scanner which was found full of mobile phones. The culprits/carriers tactfully removed the baggage tag to avoid the chances of detention and identity. Upon checking the luggage in the office of the AC customs airport Peshawar, it recovered 870 branded mobiles including Samsung, HTS, Motorola and Verizone.
About 5500 memory cards were also recovered. The value of the mobiles and memory cards is appraised Rs25million.
An FIR has been registered against some unidentified persons to unearth the net of international gangs and carriers. It is pertinent to mention that it is the largest ever seizure of I&I Peshawar at the Bacha Khan International Airport.
