Peshawar Customs seizes vehicle, smuggled goods worth Rs79.5m

PESHAWAR: In a major anti-smuggling operation, the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement, Peshawar successfully intercepted and seized a ten-wheeler truck bearing registration number TKA-785, carrying a large consignment of smuggled goods.

The total market value of the recovered contraband, including the seized vehicle, is estimated at Rs 79.5 million. The seized items include 222 cartons (11,100 sleeves) of foreign-origin cigarettes, 240 cartons (60,000 boxes) of Pan Paras hookah flavour, 1,800 kilograms of poppy seeds, and 1,150 packs of gutka.

Both the contraband and the carrier vehicle were impounded in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Customs Act.

The interception was carried out as part of ongoing intelligence-based enforcement efforts aimed at curbing smuggling and safeguarding legitimate trade and revenue. Legal proceedings have been initiated in line with prescribed rules and regulations, it added.

The FBR reiterates its firm commitment to strengthening enforcement mechanisms and taking decisive action against smuggling, illicit trade and corrupt practices to ensure fair trade and economic stability.
