Peshawar I&I seizes heroin worth Rs50.9m near Nowshera

PESHAWAR: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) foiled a bid to smuggle huge quantity of foreign origin heroin through G.T. Road. The market value of seized heroin is Rs59 million, while the vehicle of impounded vehicle is Rs0.9 million.

Sources told Customs Today that Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Rashid Habib Khan received credible information about smuggling of foreign origin heroin through GT Road and then smuggle it abroad. He directed Additional Director Faysal Bokhari to enhance vigilance in the jurisdiction to foil any attempt of smuggling.

The customs anti-smuggling squad comprising Assistant Director Mumtaz, Sepoy Muhammad Shahzad, and Ishfaque Ahmad and driver Muhammad Jahangir established a check post on GT Road near Nowshera. The squad intercepted a Suzuki Liana motor car bearing registration No.LEB-09-8655 but the driver ignored and geared up the vehicle in mean time the Customs I&I squad chased the smugglers vehicle but traffickers left the vehicle on road side and fled away, the squad get the vehicle in custody and bring it into the Directorate of I&I where after thoroughly search found 5000 grams (5 Kg) of foreign origin Heroin which was hide in Digi of vehicle in the plastic bag.

The estimated value of 5 kg of heroin is Rs.50 million and the vehicle value is Rs.0.9 million, the case has been registered under customs Act 1997, while further investigation in under way.
