Peshawar I&I impounds narcotics worth Rs50m

PESHAWAR: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) has seized 20 kilogram of fine quality heroin powder, which was being transported to Punjab from FATA in a Suzuki Liana car and a Shahzore truck.

Sources told that Director I&I Rashid Habib Khan received information that certain elements would attempt to transport narcotics to Punjab via G.T Road. On the directives of Additional Director Syed Faisal Bukhari, Deputy Director Najeeb Arjumand constituted a team headed by Assistant Director Mumtaz and comprising Malik Shahzad, Ashfaq Ahmed and Muhammad Jahangir.

Subsequently, the suspected vehicles were spotted and intercepted at different occasions. The drivers of the vehicle managed to escape successfully.

The detailed search of the Suzuki Liana car led to recovery of 5kg smuggled heroin powder worth Rs50 million. The value of the vehicle is Rs0.9 million. Similarly, examination of Shahzore Truck led to recovery of 15kg heroin powder worth Rs150 million. The value of the vehicle is Rs1.0 million FIRs are lodged and investigations are underway.
