Peshawar I&I seizes 22kg hashish, 24kg hafnium, vehicle worth Rs53m

PESHAWAR: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation seized 22 kilograms of foreign origin charas and 24 kilogram of hafnium along with Hona Civic worth Rs53 million.

Sources of I&I told Customs Today that on direction of Director Rashid Habib, the campaign against smuggling of narcotics is on full swing. An information was received to the effect that a sizeable quantity of narcotics would be smuggled from tribal areas in a Honda Civic bearing registration no: NW-186 Islamabad, in an attempt to smuggle these narcotics to abroad.

Pursuing the said information, Deputy Director Shaheen Arjumand formed a squad comprising Assistant Director Mumtaz along with Superintend Syed Shah and Inspector Javed Shah including sepoys Malik Shahzad, Ishfaq Ahmad and driver Jhangeer.

The squad set up ‘naka’ at Rashakie Interchange Distric Noshera and a vehicle was spotted coming from Peshawar side. The staff signaled to stop the vehicle but the driver of the vehicle tried to escape while intercepted after short following. Driver of the vehicle escaped from the scene after parking the vehicle on the road side.

The vehicle was searched on the spot by the staff of drug cell of I&I Peshawar and found contraband (chars) tactfully concealed in the cavities of the vehicle. The vehicle was then brought to the premises of the Directorate of Intelligence Peshawar where thorough search led to the recovery of foreign origin 22.5 kilograms of chars and 24 kgs foreign origin hafnium along with carrier vehicle.

The estimated value of the aforementioned seized narcotics and vehicle is around Rs 53 million (chars Rs 22.5 million, Hafnium Rs 28.920 million and vehicle Rs 2.5 million). FIR has been lodged against an unknown person and further investigation is underway.
