Peshawar I&I seizes smuggled cigarettes & dry fruit worth Rs50m near Bannu

PESHAWAR:  Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Additional Director Faysal Bokhari has said that due to current corona virus, Customs I&I enhanced vigilance in the jurisdiction to thwart any attempt of smuggling.

Talking with Customs Today Faysal Bokhari said that Director Customs I&I Rashid Habib received credible information about some smuggling attempts taking the advantage of current situation of corona virus.

He immediately constituted some anti-smuggling squads to enhance patrolling. The anti-smuggling squad intercepted a Hino truck

bearing registration no: TKM-421 Lasbela. The anti-smuggling squad searched the recovered almonds and cigarettes.

The vehicle was then brought to the premises of the Directorate of I&I Peshawar where thoroughly examination led to recovery of 5365 kilograms of almonds and 21250 sticks of cigarettes which have been seized along with vehicle.

Faysal Bokhari said that the estimated value of the aforementioned good is around Rs54.4 million (goods Rs49.4 million and vehicle Rs5 million).

Customs Intelligence  and Investigation team after registering  a case of smuggling started investigations.
