Peshawar I&I seizes smuggled goods Rs2.532b during FY22-23

PESHAWAR: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation (I&I) has seized smuggled goods, non-duty paid vehicles and earned generated through auctions in worth of Rs.2.532 billion during FY 2022-23

Telling the details Director I&I Shafqat Niazi told Customs Today that in line with the vision of Ch. Faiz Ahmad Chadhar, Director General, Intelligence and Investigation (Customs), Islamabad, the Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation has performed extraordinary in detection of smuggled goods, narcotics, highlighting of smuggling trends and helping other customs formations and Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) to foil any attempt of the smuggling of non-duty and contraband goods within its jurisdiction, during FY 2022-23.

He said that during the FY Year 2022-23, the Directorate has detected cases of smuggled goods valuing Rs.1642 million as compared to previous FY 2021-22 as Rs.1081 million showing increase of 52% in terms of value. Further, the Directorate has seized narcotics valuing Rs.346 million during the year.

 Answering to a query about seizures of NDP (non duty paid) Vehicles The Director said that the Directorate has seized 119 Nos of non-duty paid / smuggled vehicles valuing Rs.471 million during FY 2022-23 as compared to 57 Nos during previous FY 2021-22 valuing Rs.162 million showing increase of 191% in terms of value.

 In response about seizure of Smuggled Foreign Origin Cigarettes he said that on the special directions of the Director General, the Directorate carried out special anti-smuggling campaign against cigarettes and has seized 6,383,200 sticks of foreign origin cigarettes valuing Rs.160 million during FY 2022-23, as compared to 1,003,600 sticks valuing Rs.12 million during last FY 2021-22, showing increase of 1233% in terms of value of the cigarettes.

Telling details of disposal of goods and revenue realization The Directorate realized revenue of Rs. 259 million through auction with an increase of 10% over the last year.

Further the Directorate conducted destruction of expired and contraband goods, lying for long time in the State Ware House of the Directorate, in line with CGO No. 12 of 2002 Niazi concluded.
