Peshawar I&I seizes smuggled goods worth Rs200m

PESHAWAR: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&) has seized huge quantity of smuggled goods worth over Rs200 million.

During initial Investigation it was found that importer M/s Babar Enterprises is also involved in misuse of manufacturing status and in issuing fake/flying invoices.

Sources said that information was passed through Director Intelligence and Investigation Peshawar Naveed Iqbal to Additional Director Rashid Munir regarding movement of smuggled goods. The staff of Field Intelligence Unit Mardan intercepted a trailer loaded with foreign origin cloth at Colonel Sher Khan, Interchange, M1 Motorway.

The driver namely Aman Ullah produced two GDs. The goods were examined and cross checked with the documents produced and were found irrelevant.

The documents pertains to another consignment imported while availing concession of Sales tax and additional sales tax to the importers. Besides, the documents provided by the driver of the seized vehicle pertain to raw material, while the goods seized are finished cloth.

In another information based operation, a Toyota Lexus car was also recovered and seized. Vehicle’s engine and chassis numbers were tampered. It is suspected the vehicle was smuggled into the country without payment of duty and taxes.

Teams of Customs Intelligence and Investigation conducted operations in Mardan, Peshawar, Kohat, Dera Ismail Khan and across the province.

As per the instructions of Director General ISI Faiz Ahmed, field formations across the country have expedited the anti-smuggling drive, and smuggled goods are seized on daily basis effectively suppressing the flow of smuggled goods into the country.
