ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that the issue of petrol shortage was resolved by short term fuel import policy.
After moving the motion for discussing petroleum shortage in the country, he said in his opening remarks that steps have been taken to avert recurrence of petrol shortage like situation in the country.
He said the petrol crisis was caused by exceptional demand of the commodity in the month of January. However this problem was overcome within six days with import of additional petrol in short term.
We reopened CNG supplies and made arrangements for additional petrol supplies to overcome the problem at the earliest, he added.
He clarified that the petrol shortage was limited to certain areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and not to the whole country.
The minister said that Pakistan State Oil (PSO) faces some financial issues but the petrol crisis did not happen due to any financial issue. Market share of the PSO stands at forty six percent while those of private companies fifty four.
He told the House that strategic fuel reserves of the country did not see depletion but were maintained during the period of crisis.
