ISLAMABAD: Consumers across Pakistan were expected to receive relief as petrol prices were likely to fall by up to Rs8.50 per litre from 16 April, in line with the persistent decline in global crude oil prices.

According to sources from the Ministry of Petroleum, the price of high-speed diesel was expected to decrease by up to Rs6.96 per litre for the next fifteen days. Kerosene oil could witness a reduction of up to Rs7.47 per litre, whereas light diesel oil might become cheaper by Rs7.21 per litre.

The sources stated that the oil industry had sent its working regarding petroleum product pricing to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), which was scheduled to forward its final recommendations to the government by 15 April.

The Ministry of Finance was to issue the official price notification following consultations with the Prime Minister.

The sources further revealed that the government might exercise its authority to amend the proposed prices by adjusting taxes. In the previous month, the government had increased the petroleum levy rate and maintained petrol prices while announcing relief on electricity for the public.
